About National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP) Realizing the need that the country requires establishment of quality culture to support economic growth, Quality Council of India (QCI) started National Quality Campaign (NQC) for which a NQC Committee was established in February 1999. The main focus of the committee was to conduct various industry – focused programs to improve quality and competitiveness across different sectors of industry. Initially, the National Quality Campaign was funded through contributions made by six ministries/departments of Government of India. In the 7th Annual Meeting of QCI – April 11, 2005 based on the recommendation of the 15th Governing Body to reorganize its campaign activities it was decided to up-grade the National Quality Campaign Committee as National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP) in February 28, 2007. NBQP, is one of the integral boards of QCI

The Board operates on the Vision for building “Quality for National Wellbeing”. It endeavors to work towards this vision by promoting application of quality management standards and statistical quality tools, enabling industry to improve quality competitiveness of industry in general and SME sector in particular, and also by empowering the consumers to demand quality and create pressure on suppliers to deliver the same. The National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP), works with the Mission statement of “Being a catalyst for the promotion of Quality movement amongst all stakeholders” to essentially achieve the Objectives as follows; Creation of Quality management platform for enhancing Quality system Creation of support structures for engagement of stakeholders in enhancing the Quality movement Facilitation on improvement of Quality of Processes and Services Enhancement of Quality awareness amongst key sectors Propagation and support for improving the efficiencies, effectiveness of public services deliveries Motivation for Continual Improvement in processes by recognizing best practices on Quality through various platforms By initiating Quality Conclaves, Quality Awards, Quality Awareness Programs, Registration Schemes, Assessment projects, Projects related to System Improvements on QHSE, Energy, etc. it sensitizes the manufacturing sectors largely as well as its connected service sectors, thereby enabling industries to improve quality competitiveness amongst SME’s.

Mr. Jaxay Shah

(CHAIRPERSON, QCI)

Mr. Jaxay Shah is the Chairperson of the Quality Council of India (QCI), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. He is also the Founder and Chairman Managing Director of the Savvy Group of Companies, a professional construction conglomerate. Furthermore, he is the former Chairman of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI), the apex body of private Real Estate developers in India.

As the Chairperson of QCI, he is working towards improving the quality of goods and services to help improve the quality of life of India’s 140 crore citizens. Under his leadership, QCI is working in multiple sectors such as healthcare, education, trade & commerce, energy, water, sanitation etc and engaging with 50+ central governments, state governments, and public bodies. Mr. Shah has been taking significant steps to take the quality message to the grassroots through initiatives such as the Gunvatta Sankalp in states, Quality City with the emerging cities along with Sarpanch Samvad – working with grassroots leaders to permeate the idea of quality. Additionally, he represents QCI, as a Promoter Director (Founding Member) on the board of Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), an open network for all the players who can sell or enable selling in an e-commerce setup.

Under his leadership, CREDAI joined the ‘National Mission of Housing for All’ by launching more than 375 Affordable Housing Projects comprising 250,000 units by CREDAI member developers across the country.

Mr Shah stands as an advisor and mentor at the PharmEasy Accelerator Program, which offers 1 lakh+ medicine and health products across various categories across the country. He is a Promotional Director of Kensville Golf and Country Club, Savvy Swaraaj Sports Academy, and a trustee of LAA (LD College of Engineering Alumni Association) as well as JYOT (NGO).

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geo-technology and Foundation Engineering from L.D. College of Engineering, Gujarat University.

Mr. Shah is an environment and sustainability crusader and is committed towards eco-friendly construction using renewable technology for a better planet.

Mr. Chakravarthy T. Kannan

SECRETARY GENERAL, (QCI)

Mr. Chakravarthy T. Kannan, Secretary General, Quality Council of India (QCI), brings with him a distinguished career spanning leadership positions in the automotive and logistics sectors. He has led several key national organizations and global business expansion initiatives. With extensive experience as CEO of Mobility at Mahindra Logistics, where he successfully turned around complex B2B and B2C operations to achieve a positive PAT, Mr. Chakravarthy brings a wealth of expertise in strategic management and business transformation. He has also led several business transformations such as ‘Digital Product Development e-NPI’, ‘Quality Crusade’, ‘Geelantheid – a billion-dollar Global business setup’. As the founder of CATAPULT, an industry-first tech-based incubator, he has demonstrated a keen ability to drive innovation and accelerate user case maturation, earning recognition from industry giants like Shell and Intel.

His prior roles as Business Head and Senior VP at Mahindra & Mahindra have equipped him with strategic acumen and a proven track record of spearheading global business expansion initiatives and driving organizational growth.

With his rich sea of experience, coupled with an MBA in Corporate Strategy from Ross Business School and a background in Industrial Engineering, Mr. Chakravarthy is poised to lead QCI towards new heights of excellence and innovation in quality standards.

Mr. Vipin Sondhi

(CHAIRPERSON, NBQP)

Mr. Vipin Sondhi, is an alumnus of The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, The Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and did his schooling at The Lawrence School, Sanawar. Mr.Sondhi has over three decades of experience in Manufacturing and Engineering based companies such as Ashok Leyland, JCB India , Shriram Honda, Tata Steel and Tecumseh Products India, of which over two decades was as MD & CEO. He a strong and proven track record as a leader, and is a passionate hands-on professional.

Mr. Vipin Sondhi was the MD & CEO of Ashok Leyland and a Director on the Board of Switch Mobility, a fully owned subsidiary of Ashok Leyland set up to manufacture Electric Vehicles. Ashok Leyland is the 2nd largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India with an international footprint. Prior to Ashok Leyland, he was MD & CEO of JCB lndia for over 13 years, and was a member of JCB’s global executive team. He led the JCB business, into five world class manufacturing plants situated in three locations, and established market leadership in the Construction Equipment Industry. JCB’s Made in India products were exported to over 100 countries cumulatively during his tenure. He also also a member of JCB’s Global Group Executive and also had charge of S.E.Asia and the Pacific. He was appointed by the Government of India as the Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal in December 2015. He has held the position of Vice President of the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers (SIAM) and Vice President of the Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC). A member of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) National Council, he is also the Chairman of CII’s National Mission on Technology, Innovation & Research and Chairman of CII’s National Committee on Future Mobility. He serves on the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust; the BoT of The Ananta Centre and the BoT of the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation. He was awarded the Confederation of India (CII) Young Manager’s Trophy in the year 2000; The Udyog Rattan Award by the Institute of Economic Studies in 2011; The CEO of the Year Award at CEO India Awards in 2014. He was also conferred with an Honorary Fellowship by the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM) in 2017 and The Economic Times ‘Most Promising Business Leader of Asia – Construction Equipment Industry in 2018-19.

Dr. A. Raj

(CEO, NBQP)

Dr. A. Raj has been employed with the Quality Council of India (QCI) since 2015 and is currently posted as the CEO of NBQP after successfully setting up and running the ZED Division of QCI.

He has had an enthusiastic professional career of over 28 years, based on a PhD and Master’s Degree. He is also a Commerce Graduate from University of Delhi and a Certified Hospitality Educator.

Raj is a voracious trainer and has been intensely involved in training and development activities including Capacity Building programmes/webinars for various industry sectors at both national & international platforms & forums. He has represented QCI & presented papers at ASQ (Texas, USA), ARSO (South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Cameroon), IAQ/SAQ Shanghai (China), EoQ (Slovenia & Portugal), ICQEM (Spain), CSQ (Canada) amongst others. At the national level he has presented & showcased various initiatives of QCI at multiple forums & panel discussions including conclaves, investment summits, industry events of various State Governments apart from Capacity Building of Bankers of India under the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) initiative, reputed National Industry Chambers & Associations as well as at Supply Chain meetings of large Enterprises and OEMs. He has assisted in institutionalizing various benefits for MSME units through sustained engagement with the State Governments, RBI & Financial Institutions, Government e-Marketplace etc.

Formerly, Raj has been the Regional Head of a leading Technical University and also the Managing Director of an educational foundation. Raj has also trained and worked in managerial capacities with International Hospitality chains.

An avid traveller, Raj loves experiencing various cultures, cuisines and traditions and is fond of learning new languages.
